* I sent home 8 "Copy # 2" field trip forms with those students who haven't turned in the permission forms for our trip to the Santa Cruz Museum on Friday, 1/20. Students need the form AND $2.00 CASH IN AN ENVELOPE WITH HIS/HER NAME ON THE FRONT. Check the Field Trip box (scroll down...left side) to see who is driving :)
1. Excel Homework #66: Your child had ample time (45 minutes) to finish in class. If your child wasn't able to finish work at school, please have him/her finish math at home. PLEASE correct your child's work at home. If you find incorrect answers, please guide him/her to the correct answer. WHEN the ENTIRE paper is finished and completely correct, please sign both sides and have your child put it in his/her "Organizer" in the Homework section for the return trip to school. After papers are recorded and corrected, I recycle them at school. HINT: If you find any math papers in your child's "Organizer" they have not been turned in. Please empty the "Completed Work" section of your child's "Organizer" EVERY DAY.
2. The Mysterious Giant of Barletta This week's spelling packet is due this Friday, 11/18/11. You can locate this packet in the "Homework" section of your child's "Organizer." Please sign each page when it is completed correctly and keep all pages stapled together. Spelling Test on Friday, 11/14. ***The little writing assignment on one of the pages isn't required.
3. *IMPORTANT CHANGE THIS WEEK ONLY: Study Dogzilla TONIGHT AND TURN IN TOMORROW, the day of the test. We spent 6 day on this story (4 days last week & today), so the comprehension test is TOMORROW, Tuesday, 11/15.
4. Literature Circle Job due Weds., 11/16 **BRING JOB AND BOOK: Your child brought home a Literature Circle last week (Homework Section of his/her"Organizer"). Be sure your child brings his/her completed Literature Circle Job and Book on WEDNESDAY at 7:55, since we start Literature Circle about 8:05. Give your child time to practice reading the report, so he/she is ready to read it to his/her group tomorrow.
5. NEW** The Mysterious Giant of Barletta Summary: We read and discussed the story today. Your child has the summary for this story in the "Homework" section of his/her Organizer. The test for this story is on Friday, 11/18. Please have your child study the summary M, Tu, Weds, Th and turn it in on Friday, 11/18, the day of the test.
6. CORRECT Dogzilla Homework Packet Due any time this week. Your child has last week's homework in his/her Homework section. If it has a "highlighted" star & stamped completed, he/she has received a treat because there were no errors. If problems on the math page are marked wrong/ highlighted, please have your child correct the mistakes and SIGN WHEN ALL PAGES (FRONT AND BACK) ARE CORRECTED. If your child did NOT turn in last week's work, there is a second copy......please have him/her complete it, or find the original copy so that he/she can get credit. Please return the corrected packet tomorrow sometime this week, so that your child can get a treat.

- A1. Santa Cruz County Fair on THURSDAY, September ___. DRIVERS for this trip include the parents of: ____, ___ Drivers need to be in Room 22 at 8:10, & we will be back by 1.30 PM. Students view community exhibits contributed by adults & children in Santa Cruz County. NO COST for students, but drivers need to pay for parking (approximately $5.00). The first 6 people to turn in ALL of their driver information to the office will be admitted to the fair free of charge (except for parking.) **PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE to get a driver's form.)

Students will have a hands on experience, as they learn about early agriculture in Watsonville Valley. Students will learn about the early settlers in Santa Cruz County-from the Castros to Pioneers who made their living farming in the area. Hands on experience: milking a "cow," making butter, washing clothes on a washboard, grinding corn, playing with wagon wheel rims, & a hay ride :-) ALL STUDENTS NEED A PAPER BAG LUNCH. COST: $4.00.

- My husband, Ed, & I are celebrating our 40th anniversary this March. Our children, Sarah, 31, and Marc, 26, both attended Rio del Mar School! Sarah & husband, Chad, are expecting our 1st grandchild on 9/27!! Marc is working on his Masters degree in San Francisco! I graduated with honors from CSU Sacramento & earned my credential 1 yr. later & finally my CLAD credential. I taught Special Education for 2 yrs. in Sacramento. When Ed aka "Terry" took a job at VPS Inc, I took a K-3 job at Live Oak School District. I taught for 6 yrs., until Sarah was born in 1979. For 15 years I enjoyed my stay at home mom job, & I spent hours volunteering in my children's classrooms. I also had several volunteer jobs from Site Council Chair to Parent Ed. Coordinator, but I missed having my own class. When I was given the opportunity to take over a 4th grade class, I jumped at it. Our son was in 4th grade at RDM, & our daughter was at Monte Vista High. I've taught 4th grade, a 4/5 combination, 5th grade, and then I finally moved to 3rd, my favorite. I also had 2 awesome 2/3 combination classes.
