2. NEW today Study for Science Test on Friday Your child has participated in several experiments in class involving energy & matter. We read & discussed the unit in November & December. Today your child made "study cards" as we reviewed the concepts in the unit. Please help your child study his/her "study cards." Science terms/questions are on the front, and the definitions/answers are on the back of each card. There are 17 cards. At first, your child can study by himself/herself, and then when he/she is ready, you can read the front of each card and test to be sure he/she knows the terms by checking the back of each card. This is a study skill that will use in the future as he she moves into Jr. High School, High School, and College. You are teaching a method of study for future years. We're playing "Energy/Matter" Jeopardy in class, too.
3. NEW Literature Circle Job due Weds., 1/11 **BRING JOB AND BOOK: DUE THE FIRST DAY BACK AFTER THE WINTER BREAK. Try to get it done next week sometime so that it is done way ahead of the due date. Your child has his/her Literature Circle assignment in the Homework Section of his/her"Organizer". Be sure your child brings his/her completed Literature Circle Job and Book on WEDNESDAY, January 11, 2012 at 7:55, since we start Literature Circle about 8:05. Give your child time to practice reading the report, so he/she is ready to read it to his/her group on the day it is due :)

If it has a star & stamped completed, he/she has received a treat because there were no errors. If there are errors on the math or spelling pages, the pages to correct are written in on the front 1/2 sheet of paper. Look for highlighting on the front where the pages are written. Please have your child correct the mistakes and SIGN WHEN ALL PAGES (FRONT AND BACK) ARE CORRECTED.

Students view community exhibits contributed by adults & children in Santa Cruz County. NO COST for students, but drivers need to pay for parking (approximately $5.00). The first 6 people to turn in ALL of their driver information to the office will be admitted to the fair free of charge (except for parking.) **PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE to get a driver's form.)

Students will have a hands on experience, as they learn about early agriculture in Watsonville Valley. Students will learn about the early settlers in Santa Cruz County-from the Castros to Pioneers who made their living farming in the area. Hands on experience: milking a "cow," making butter, washing clothes on a washboard, grinding corn, playing with wagon wheel rims, & a hay ride :-) ALL STUDENTS NEED A PAPER BAG LUNCH. COST: $4.00.

- My husband, Ed, & I are celebrating our 40th anniversary this March. Our children, Sarah, 31, and Marc, 26, both attended Rio del Mar School! Sarah & husband, Chad, are expecting our 1st grandchild on 9/27!! Marc is working on his Masters degree in San Francisco! I graduated with honors from CSU Sacramento & earned my credential 1 yr. later & finally my CLAD credential. I taught Special Education for 2 yrs. in Sacramento. When Ed aka "Terry" took a job at VPS Inc, I took a K-3 job at Live Oak School District. I taught for 6 yrs., until Sarah was born in 1979. For 15 years I enjoyed my stay at home mom job, & I spent hours volunteering in my children's classrooms. I also had several volunteer jobs from Site Council Chair to Parent Ed. Coordinator, but I missed having my own class. When I was given the opportunity to take over a 4th grade class, I jumped at it. Our son was in 4th grade at RDM, & our daughter was at Monte Vista High. I've taught 4th grade, a 4/5 combination, 5th grade, and then I finally moved to 3rd, my favorite. I also had 2 awesome 2/3 combination classes.
