Yearbooks. Every year, there are students who don't have a yearbook to collect their peers' signatures. Please consider buying one now. The envelopes went home last week. Yearbooks are $15.00., and if your child can't find the yearbook envelope, you can send it in a plain envelope WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME WRITTEN ON THE FRONT.
1. Excel Homework #90/91: Your child had ample time (45 minutes) to finish in class. If your child wasn't able to finish work at school, please have him/her finish math at home. PLEASE correct your child's work at home. If you find incorrect answers, please guide him/her to the correct answer. WHEN the ENTIRE paper is finished and completely correct, please sign both sides and have your child put it in his/her "Organizer" in the Homework section for the return trip to school. After papers are recorded and corrected, I recycle them at school. HINT: If you find any math papers in your child's "Organizer" they have not been turned in. Please empty the "Completed Work" section of your child's "Organizer" EVERY DAY.
2. Seal Surfer This week's spelling packet is due Friday, 1/27 . You can locate this packet in the "Homework" section of your child's "Organizer." Please sign each page when it is completed correctly and keep all pages stapled together. Spelling Test on Friday, 1/27. ***The little writing assignment on page 31 isn't required.
3. Literature Circle Job due, Weds., 1/25 **BRING JOB AND BOOK: Your child brought home a Literature Circle last week (Homework Section of his/her"Organizer"). Be sure your child brings his/her completed Literature Circle Job and Book on WEDNESDAY at 7:55, since we start Literature Circle about 8:05. Give your child time to practice reading the report, so he/she is ready to read it to his/her group tomorrow.
4. SUMMARY for Seal Surfer: We read and discussed the story yesterday. Your child has the summary for this story in the "Homework" section of his/her Organizer. The test for this story is on Friday, 1/27. Please have your child study the summary M, Tu, Weds, Th and turn it in on Friday, 1/27, the day of the test.
5. CORRECT The Nights of the Pufflings Spelling Packet. If it has 100% written on it. a , he/she has received a treat because there were no errors. If there are errors on the test, please have your child correct them by the end of the week. Please have your child correct the mistakes and SIGN WHEN ALL PAGES (FRONT AND BACK) ARE CORRECTED.
6. CORRECT Nights of the Pufflings PB pages Due sometime this week. Your child has the Nights of the Pufflings Practice Book pages (1/2 sheet stapled to the front) in his/her Homework section. If it has a "highlighted" star & stamped completed, he/she has received a treat because there were no errors. Please help your child correct the errors he/she made as we completed the pages together. AFTER HE/SHE HAS CORRECTED his/her work, please check for accuracy & sign.

- A1. Santa Cruz County Fair on THURSDAY, September ___. DRIVERS for this trip include the parents of: ____, ___ Drivers need to be in Room 22 at 8:10, & we will be back by 1.30 PM. Students view community exhibits contributed by adults & children in Santa Cruz County. NO COST for students, but drivers need to pay for parking (approximately $5.00). The first 6 people to turn in ALL of their driver information to the office will be admitted to the fair free of charge (except for parking.) **PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE to get a driver's form.)
- C2. Aptos History Museum on ____, October ____. Drivers include the parent(s) of: -----Drivers need to be in Room 22 at 8:30. We will return to the school at approximately 10:25. Students learn about the Ohlones as well as early settlers and industry in Aptos. COST: $1.00
- C4. Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History on ______, ____ __th. EACH STUDENT needs to bring in $2.00 in an envelope with his/her NAME ON THE FRONT OF THE ENVELOPE. Drivers include parent(s) of: **SAVE THE DATE. Drivers need to be in Room 22 at 9:15 (IMPORTANT because traffic can sometimes be an issue!) We will arrive for our small group session and return approximately 11:30 . ALL STUDENTS NEED A PAPER BAG LUNCH (NO lunch boxes/bags) Students learn about Ohlones, the early native Americans who lived here years ago. COST: $2.00

History of: The Boardwalk, Mexican Ranchos, Logging, Farming, & Early Settlers. COST: $2.00 per student.

Drivers include the parents of: _______ Please mark your calendars & THANK YOU! *Please update insurance. Drivers need to be in Room 22 at 8:50. We will return by 12:40. Students will have a hands on experience, as they learn about early agriculture in Watsonville Valley. Students will learn about the early settlers in Santa Cruz County-from the Castros to Pioneers who made their living farming in the area. Hands on experience: milking a "cow," making butter, washing clothes on a washboard, grinding corn, playing with wagon wheel rims, & a hay ride :-) ALL STUDENTS NEED A PAPER BAG LUNCH. COST: $4.00.

- My husband, Ed, & I are celebrating our 40th anniversary this March. Our children, Sarah, 31, and Marc, 26, both attended Rio del Mar School! Sarah & husband, Chad, are expecting our 1st grandchild on 9/27!! Marc is working on his Masters degree in San Francisco! I graduated with honors from CSU Sacramento & earned my credential 1 yr. later & finally my CLAD credential. I taught Special Education for 2 yrs. in Sacramento. When Ed aka "Terry" took a job at VPS Inc, I took a K-3 job at Live Oak School District. I taught for 6 yrs., until Sarah was born in 1979. For 15 years I enjoyed my stay at home mom job, & I spent hours volunteering in my children's classrooms. I also had several volunteer jobs from Site Council Chair to Parent Ed. Coordinator, but I missed having my own class. When I was given the opportunity to take over a 4th grade class, I jumped at it. Our son was in 4th grade at RDM, & our daughter was at Monte Vista High. I've taught 4th grade, a 4/5 combination, 5th grade, and then I finally moved to 3rd, my favorite. I also had 2 awesome 2/3 combination classes.
